Market snapshot: 25 October 2026, checked at 19:57 CET. The source edition was prepared at 20:05 CET. The figures below describe that snapshot, not live prices.
Crypto is mixed today rather than clearly rising or falling. Bitcoin traded near $80,584, up 0.29% over the rolling 24 hours and only 0.05% since the previous check. Fifteen of 20 measured major non-stablecoin assets rose, but CoinGecko's aggregate market capitalization remained down 2.79% and trading volume fell sharply. A second provider, CoinPaprika, showed total capitalization up 0.48%, reinforcing that the aggregate signal is uncertain.
The substantial new development is a security disclosure. CoinDCX confirmed on 25 October that 15.99 million USDT was lost after its automated service failed to sweep deposits away from deprecated wallet infrastructure compromised in a July 2025 incident. The Indian exchange said it absorbed the loss, active wallets were unaffected and customer balances remained fully accounted for.
The company had earlier described the suspicious transfers as a possible false alarm. This does not establish that CoinDCX is insolvent or caused today's prices. Bitcoin barely moved after the earlier check, so any market connection remains unproven.

Rolling 24 hours is the primary meaning of “today.” Bitcoin's since-midnight change uses Kraken's incomplete UTC candle and is reported separately.
The classification is mixed or sideways with positive breadth. Bitcoin, Ethereum and most measured majors are higher, but Bitcoin has barely changed since the afternoon check, aggregate providers disagree on market-cap direction and trading volume is contracting. That evidence does not justify calling the market a confirmed broad rally.
Why is crypto going up today for many coins?
Most of the measured major assets moved higher. Uniswap gained 3.15%, NEAR 3.10%, Zcash 2.88%, Bitcoin Cash 2.65%, BNB 1.90% and Hyperliquid 1.51%. Ethereum, XRP, Solana, Dogecoin and Litecoin also rose.
That breadth shows the gains are not limited to Bitcoin. However, CoinGecko's aggregate 24-hour volume fell 37.25%, so the rebound resembles low-volume stabilization rather than a decisive breakout.
Bitcoin's stability above $80,000 is another constructive signal. It remains above its 200-day moving average, while open interest on Hyperliquid's Bitcoin perpetual market slipped 0.33% since the previous check. Open interest is the value of active derivatives positions. Falling open interest alongside a small price gain can indicate that the move is not being powered by a large new build-up of leverage.
Why is crypto still down today by some measures?
CoinGecko's total-market measure remained 2.79% lower over 24 hours even as 15 of the 20 screened assets rose. Monero, LEO Token, Cardano, Stellar and Rain were also negative. This divergence means the market is not uniformly higher.
The CoinGecko and CoinPaprika aggregates should not be averaged. They cover different sets of assets and use different methodologies and update timing. CoinPaprika's market-cap figure was roughly $128 billion higher and showed a small gain rather than a decline. The disagreement reduces confidence in the exact size—and even the aggregate direction—of today's move.
The latest U.S. spot Bitcoin ETF data predates this Sunday check. An ETF flow is net money entering or leaving exchange-traded funds. No weekend session exists, so older outflows are background rather than a fresh explanation.
What happened at CoinDCX?
CoinDCX said its old operational wallet infrastructure had been compromised in July 2025 and subsequently deprecated. Some users nevertheless continued sending funds to older deposit addresses. The exchange credited those deposits to customers and used a separate automated “sweeping” service to transfer the crypto into secure active wallets.
According to the company's new statement, that sweeping service failed for a period. Deposits accumulated in the vulnerable infrastructure, leading to a 15.99 million USDT loss on 21 October. CoinDCX said the company absorbed the loss and that trading, deposits and withdrawals continued without interruption.
The Block reported that CEO Sumit Gupta had earlier called breach reports a possible false alarm. The later admission matters because it changes the verified understanding of the event from disputed wallet activity to a company-confirmed loss.
Independent blockchain firm Bitquery said 15.99 million USDT left 40 CoinDCX-linked TRON wallets and argued that the addresses were still processing deposits. CoinDCX calls them deprecated infrastructure maintained to recover mistaken deposits. The company has not disclosed how the attacker retained control or how long the sweep failed.
CoinDCX says customers were credited and the company took the loss. Users still depend on the exchange's operational controls and disclosures.
Leverage, liquidations and funding
Hyperliquid showed about $3.40 billion of Bitcoin perpetual open interest. Funding—the periodic payment between long and short perpetual traders—was mildly positive at 0.00125% per hour on that venue, meaning longs paid shorts.
A liquidation is a forced closure of a leveraged position when collateral becomes insufficient. No dependable fresh market-wide 24-hour liquidation total was available from an accessible primary dashboard, so no such number is presented as current. Hyperliquid figures are venue-specific and should not be treated as the whole derivatives market.
What beginners should watch next
- CoinDCX follow-up: Watch for a technical post-mortem, recovery disclosures or Indian regulatory action. The current statement leaves important control questions unanswered.
- Bitcoin support at $79,100-$80,000: Support is a zone where buyers previously interrupted a decline. A completed daily close below it would weaken the stabilization case.
- Resistance at $81,800-$83,000: Resistance is a zone where sellers previously interrupted a rise. A completed close above it would improve the daily structure.
- Volume: A broad move with rising participation would be more convincing than today's low-volume rebound.
- Provider convergence: Similar total-cap direction across providers would make the market classification clearer.
Bitcoin technical analysis: daily
Classification: Bearish / transitional.
Kraken's latest completed UTC candle, 24 October, closed at $80,771.90 after trading between $79,120.80 and $81,101.00. It closed below the 20-day simple moving average at $82,540.52 and the 50-day average at $81,798.96, but above the 200-day average at $72,900.08. Daily RSI(14) was 44.16, a weak-neutral reading rather than deeply oversold.
The completed candle made a lower high and lower low. Volume was 0.93 times the preceding 20-day average, so the decline lacked strong volume confirmation. The 25 October candle remains incomplete. A completed close below $79,100 would confirm deterioration; a close above $83,000 would be an early repair.
Bitcoin technical analysis: weekly
Classification: Bullish recovery under pressure.
The latest completed week, 12-18 October, closed at $82,001.70, above the 20-week simple moving average at $71,531.00 and the 50-week average at $76,543.59. Weekly RSI(14) was 57.12, but the candle produced a lower high and lower low.
The 19-25 October candle remains incomplete until Monday 00:00 UTC. A completed weekly close below $79,100-$80,000 would damage the recovery structure. A close above $84,250-$87,000 would improve it. A bearish daily correction can coexist with a bullish weekly recovery because the timeframes measure different periods.
FAQs
Did CoinDCX customers lose $16 million?
CoinDCX says it absorbed the loss and customer balances and active systems were unaffected. Analysts still question how the deprecated addresses remained active.
Did the CoinDCX incident make Bitcoin fall?
No causal link is verified. Bitcoin was slightly higher over 24 hours and almost unchanged since the previous check when the data was retrieved.
Is crypto up or down today?
The evidence is mixed. Most measured major assets rose, but CoinGecko's total-cap measure remained negative, CoinPaprika showed a small gain and volume fell sharply.
