Crypto.com Review 2026: Is It the Right Crypto Platform for European Users?

Crypto.com combines a beginner-friendly app, advanced exchange, prepaid card, staking and hundreds of cryptocurrencies. We examine the costs and risks for Europeans.

AI-generated illustration of the topic.

Crypto.com is more than a cryptocurrency exchange. European customers can buy hundreds of digital assets through its main app, trade on a separate order-book exchange, earn staking rewards, use decentralised finance and spend through a prepaid card.

That ecosystem is its main advantage—and the reason Crypto.com can be difficult to evaluate. Buying Bitcoin instantly in the App is not the same as placing a limit order on the Exchange. Staking is not equivalent to a savings account, while CRO card rewards create additional token-price risk.

Crypto.com’s Maltese entity now holds authorisation under the European Union’s Markets in Crypto-Assets Regulation, or MiCA. This improves regulatory accountability but does not turn crypto into a guaranteed bank deposit.

Information was checked on 28 September 2026. Products, fees, rewards and supported assets can vary by country and change frequently.

What is Crypto.com?

Founded in 2016, Crypto.com operates an ecosystem including the Crypto.com App and Web platform, Crypto.com Exchange, prepaid card, Crypto Earn, on-chain staking, Onchain Wallet, Crypto.com Pay and the Cronos blockchain ecosystem.

The main platform advertises more than 400 cryptocurrencies globally. The precise selection available depends on the customer’s jurisdiction.

Is Crypto.com regulated in Europe?

Yes. Foris DAX MT Limited received authorisation as a MiCA crypto-asset service provider from the Malta Financial Services Authority on 27 January 2025. The authorisation allows covered services to be passported across the European Economic Area.

MiCA introduces governance, disclosure, custody, complaints, operational-resilience and market-conduct requirements. It does not guarantee token value, reimburse trading losses or protect crypto with the EU bank-deposit scheme.

Crypto.com states that Earn and staking are not regulated under MiCA. Its self-custodial Onchain Wallet is also separate from the regulated custodial service.

The App’s EEA schedule lists 0.80% for cash-to-crypto and crypto-to-crypto transactions, up to 4% for debit or credit-card purchases, no platform fee for bank-transfer deposits and €1 for euro withdrawals through SEPA.

The Exchange begins at 0.25% maker and 0.50% taker for customers trading below $10,000 over 30 days without qualifying CRO. Higher volume and CRO balances can reduce fees.

On a €1,000 order, 0.80% equals €8, 0.50% equals €5 and 0.25% equals €2.50 before considering execution price, spread, conversion or network costs.

Funding and withdrawals

Euro SEPA deposits carry no Crypto.com fee, although the sending bank may charge. SEPA is generally more economical than purchasing crypto with a payment card.

Crypto.com charges €1 for a euro SEPA withdrawal. Published processing guidance allows several working days for review and transfer.

Crypto deposits are generally free from the platform side. External withdrawals carry token- and network-specific fees. Users must confirm the address, network, memo or destination tag, minimum amount and recipient support. An incompatible network can result in permanent loss.

Level Up plans

Higher PrivateCRO lockup from €450,000Very high-value customer

Level Up advertises zero trading fees on qualifying monthly volume: up to $20,000 for Plus, $50,000 for Pro and unlimited qualifying volume for Private. Zero stated commission does not mean there is no price spread or other economic cost.

Subscription or CRO lockup?

A subscription is a predictable expense. A CRO lockup introduces market risk. Locking €4,500 of CRO does not preserve €4,500; the token can rise or fall substantially during the commitment period.

Customers should consider volatility, lockup duration, opportunity cost, unstaking conditions, changing reward policies and tax treatment before buying CRO for benefits.

Crypto.com prepaid card

The European Crypto.com card is prepaid rather than a conventional bank credit card. Money must be moved or topped up to the card balance. Crypto gains cannot be spent until assets are sold, potentially creating a taxable transaction.

Crypto.com’s public reward pages conflict. The general rewards FAQ lists the following figures, but its European card schedule shows different spending caps. Confirm the rate and cap displayed for your account before subscribing or locking CRO.

PlanReward rateQualifying monthly spending cap
BasicNoneNot applicable
Plus1.5%First $750 equivalent
Pro2.5%First $1,500 equivalent
Private €45,0003.5%First $3,000; 0.5% thereafter
Private €450,0004.5%First $5,000; 1% thereafter

Rewards are paid in crypto and exclusions apply. Some marketing pages show higher headline percentages, so the customer’s in-app terms should be treated as authoritative.

Monthly free ATM allowances range from €200 for Basic to €1,000 for Obsidian. A 2% charge applies above the allowance, and ATM owners may add their own fee.

Other published European card charges include a 1% payment-card top-up fee, replacement charges, a €50 card-account closure fee and an inactivity fee after 12 months without cardholder-initiated activity. The inactivity fee increases to €6 monthly from 1 October 2026.

From 1 October 2026, Ruby and Jade/Indigo cards also gain fees on non-EUR purchases and ATM transactions: 0.2% within the EU and UK; outside those areas, 2% after monthly fee-free allowances of €400 for Ruby and €800 for Jade/Indigo.

Is the card worth it?

It can be worthwhile for an existing Crypto.com user whose rewards exceed the subscription cost and who accepts crypto volatility. It is less attractive for someone who must buy CRO solely for benefits, wants rewards in euros, rarely uses the card or exceeds reward caps quickly.

Earn and staking

Crypto Earn offers flexible or fixed arrangements with rates depending on asset, term, amount and Level Up status. Risks include token volatility, platform counterparty risk, stablecoin depegging, changing rates, lockups and taxes.

On-chain staking participates in proof-of-stake networks. Rewards can change and unbonding periods or blockchain risks can apply. CRO staking can unlock platform privileges but concentrates risk in Crypto.com’s own ecosystem token.

Earn and staking are not bank savings and are not protected by a deposit guarantee.

Security and proof of reserves

Crypto.com states that customer crypto assets are backed 1:1 and offers proof-of-reserves verification. It also lists ISO 27001, ISO 27701, ISO 22301, PCI DSS Level 1, SOC 2 Type II and NIST-related assessments.

Proof of reserves can show that assets corresponding to balances existed at a point in time. It does not necessarily disclose every corporate liability, future liquidity need, legal claim or operational weakness. The widely cited independent Crypto.com reserve report dates from December 2022, so users should check for current verification information.

Every user should enable multi-factor authentication, a unique password, the anti-phishing code, address allowlisting and biometric access. A small test withdrawal is prudent before sending a large amount.

Does Crypto.com have deposit protection?

Crypto balances do not receive the €100,000 EU bank-deposit guarantee. MiCA supervision is not deposit insurance.

The EEA Cash Account and prepaid Visa Card are provided by Foris MT Limited, a Maltese electronic-money institution. These are separate from the crypto services supplied by Foris DAX MT Limited; electronic-money safeguarding should not be described as bank-deposit insurance.

Onchain Wallet

The Onchain Wallet is self-custodial. The user controls the recovery phrase and is responsible for transactions. This provides direct ownership and access to decentralised applications, but loss of the recovery phrase, malicious contracts, phishing or a wrong network can lead to irreversible losses.

It is separate from Crypto.com’s regulated custodial platform.

Advantages

Disadvantages

Who is Crypto.com best for?

It suits European customers wanting a regulated multi-product crypto ecosystem, users willing to learn the Exchange, people interested in a crypto-reward card and customers wanting both custodial and self-custodial options.

It is less suitable for anyone expecting bank-level protection, buying exclusively by payment card, chasing yield without analysing risk or purchasing a large CRO position solely for rewards.

The Strategic Newb verdict

Crypto.com is one of Europe’s most complete crypto platforms. Its MiCA authorisation, broad asset selection, Exchange, prepaid card and wallet give it substantial depth.

Its weakness is complexity. App fees, maker-taker charges, withdrawal costs, card fees, subscriptions and CRO lockups all operate under one brand. The App is convenient, but the Exchange is usually better for price-conscious customers.

Crypto.com earns 4.1 out of 5. It is a strong European crypto ecosystem, but users must understand the exact product, cost and protection involved.

Cryptocurrency is highly volatile and may result in the loss of the entire amount invested. Crypto assets are generally not covered by bank deposit-guarantee schemes. Staking, lending, stablecoins and decentralised-finance products involve additional risks.
